Dr Maitham

Dr Maitham Mathlum is a highly skilled and attentive radiation oncologist who is dedicated to guiding patients through every stage of their cancer care.

Known for his approachable manner, confidence and genuine warmth, he strives to provide care that is honest, compassionate and centred around each individual’s needs.

Dr Mathlum practices at Icon Cancer Centre Geelong and brings extensive experience to his role. After completing his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, he began specialist oncology training in New Zealand. He became a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) in 2007 and is an active member of several major cancer research groups, including the Trans Tasman Oncology Group (TROG), European Oncology Trial Group (EORTC) and the Faculty of Radiation Oncology Genitourinary Group (FROGG).

Throughout his career, Dr Mathlum has been deeply involved in clinical research and trials. He was an early leader in immunotherapy trials for prostate and head and neck cancers and is currently collaborating with RMIT University on nanoparticle technology research. He has contributed to a wide range of international and Trans-Tasman clinical trials and has served as Principal Investigator across multiple studies in gastrointestinal, prostate, skin, melanoma and head and neck cancers. Alongside his clinical work, he also holds the position of Director of Training at the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists.

Dr Mathlum is recognised for his expertise in advanced radiation therapy, including intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and stereotactic radiation techniques. His clinical practice spans a broad spectrum of solid tumour cancers, with particular interest in head and neck, breast, prostate, gastrointestinal and skin malignancies.
